|We will continue to work hard to ensure the safety of the children and community we serve. Beginning Monday, January 8th we will be moving to a 'rolling dismissal' for car-riders. Please see the information below. More information will be provided later, and we will be discussing this change at our next PTO meeting, Tuesday Dec. 12th. Thank you for your flexibility and for helping us do everything we can to make Elda as safe as possible!
We continue to review our safety procedures at Elda. The safety of your children is at the top of our priority list and we do our best to ensure we are doing everything we can to keep Elda as safe as possible. The last couple of years we have been looking at our parent pick-up/car-rider dismissal and this is a topic that has been discussed at the Ross Safety Committee meetings as well. Parent pick-up/car-rider dismissal is an area we see an opportunity to improve our safety procedures. We want to be efficient, but most importantly we want to be as safe as possible.
Some of our biggest concerns with our current dismissal system are:
The number of people we have coming in and out of our building at the end of the day
Students/families/children walking through the parking lot
The pick-up process in the cafe between children and families
Cars cutting through the parking lot to get to/from parking spaces
We have been reviewing our process and we have been looking at other schools’ processes/procedures. With that being said, we think we can deeply improve the safety of our school by updating our parent pick-up/car-rider process. We will be implementing a rolling dismissal. Basically, what we are going to do is approach end of day car-rider/ parent pick-up the same way we approach morning drop-off. Families will line-up on Beechwood Dr. and pull into the parking lot. They will follow the same circle that morning drop-off follows. Cars will then exit onto Elda Dr. Please check out the map below to see the route we are describing.
Elda staff members will be in the parking lot to help with this process. To ensure we are moving as efficiently as possible we will use a number system to match students to families.
We will be discussing this process at our PTO meeting on Tuesday, December 12th. The PTO meeting is in the Elda Media Center at 7:00pm. We will also be sharing a Youtube video message from the principal explaining this change.
We understand this will be a big change for us… change is always a challenge, but we believe moving to a rolling dismissal is what is best for our school and our students. Once we have this dismissal implemented and the kinks worked out, we are confident we will improve the safety of our school.
We will implement this change when we return from break. The first day of our rolling dismissal for parent pick-up/car-riders will be Monday, January 8, 2018.
We are thrilled about the changes we have made to improve the safety of our building and we are excited about taking yet another step to help ensure we are being as safe as possible! We appreciate your patience and understanding as we move to a rolling dismissal.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
Thank you again for your support and understanding!
We truly want to do everything we can to ensure the safety of your children!
